Hello NYC Nurses :balloons: I currently live in North Carolina and attend nursing school at NCCU. I was wondering if you guys could tell me if any of the hospitals there have nurse extern programs Here in North Carolina, they are very popular. They allow nursing student, such as myself, to work at a hospital shadowing a registered nurse. The students that I have talked to who have gone through this program found it very educational and helpful. There are two main reasons why I would like this information (1) I plan to relocate after I graduate from school and I would like to have a good idea about where I want to go (my choices now are Texas, Philadelphia, Chicago, or NYC) and (2) there is no better way to discover if a city is the right place for me :) . If you guys could give me all the information you can about hospitals that offer nurse extern programs for nursing student who are rising Seniors I would appreciate it. I have worked as a certified nurse assistant for five years so patient care is not new to me.
Thank you for helping me make this decision and I look forward to the information you can provide.

Every major hospitals have them. Presbyterian, Methodist, NYU downtown, NYU medical center, Sloan Kettering to name a few. Lots more in the outer boroughs. Since you don't have the contact info and the application requirements that you would normally get if you were in a NY school, I would contact Human Resources. Apply early - beginning of the year, and you are bound to get into one - first come, first serve has been my experience. Although, you may have to come in for interview, even if it's just a formality. lots of luck.
