First Nursing Interview

Published

I am currently in my final practicum for nursing. I am doing my practicum on an acute surgical floor, I have just started applying for jobs and I am wondering what types of questions to expect for future interviews. I want to be as prepared as possible and I am hoping that reviewing anticipated questions will help to calm my nerves!!

If you have any interview questionns to share that would be a great help! Thanks!:)

Here are some sample interview questions I received.

1. Tell about a time you got in an argument with a co-worker and how did you handle it?

2. Tell us about a time you went above and beyond with a patient?

3. Tell us about a difficult patient?

4. How do you organize your clinical day?

5. How would you prioritize(insert patient scenarios)

6. Tell us about a time you made a mistake, how did you handle it?

They really can ask you anything. My advise is think about some real life examples you have with patients. Try to remember difficult situations and how you handled them. Think of times you really helped a patient(in other ways than just physiologically) and then you can hopefully use these examples in whatever questions you are asked. Its also ok to use examples from school, such as how you worked as a team with fellow students. Also, if you are asked a negative question, try to remember to state how it helped you grow, and what you learned from it. Good luck to you!

Know how to deal with emergencies. Favourite questions these days are to do with different procedures post-op, what to do with a diabetic post op with low blood sugars, et.
