First lawsuit over CA gig economy law

Sorry, I can't find the original thread on this topic. CA enacted a "gig economy" law that is supposed to take effect 1/1/20 which would make it difficult for many workers, including NPs, to work as independent contractors.

Well, independent truckers have filed the first lawsuit against this law - see link.

I was looking for locums work until I start my new job, and none of the locums recruiters knew anything about this law. As I thought about it, I don't know how this would even be enforced.

I expect more legal challenges to this law as people become aware of it. The problem is that very few people know about the law. It is going to severely impact many industries, such as trucking, healthcare, employment agencies, and so forth.

While I understand the need to protect low-paid workers, this law was very poorly written. NPs are hardly low-paid in CA and should be able to contract their services freely if they desire.
