Haven't posted in a while...but I graduated as a practical nurse last month. Finally got a call for an interview today, it's on thursday, and i'm scared stiff. I've only had one real interview before, for a job during highschool (which i didn't get), and I don't want to mess this one up too. Any tips, please? It's for a job at a nursing home. I haven't done anything geriatric-related for quite a while, since i was doing psych rotations from spring until the end of consolidation. Anything in particular i should brush up on? or questions i should be prepared to answer? Thanks a lot!

We just hired 5 lic pending nurses and the ones that got hired appeared genuinely interested in LTC. They seemed excited about working for us. We had many more applications that did not make the cut because they did not appear enthused. Be prepared to answer questions like what is your best and worst qualities? What would you do if a C.N.A was not doing an assigned task? Be prepared to ask question such as staffing ratios, length of training etc.. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.

Just wanted to wish you luck tomorrow. I also have an interview tomorrow, not for nursing but at a hospital for a technician assistant. It has been along time for me too. I am so nervous. I posted the same question a couple of days ago and here are some responses I got. Hope it helps
Interview Advice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a former "Business Executive" I did a great deal of hiring. Here are a few things I looked for and at:
1. Always dress professionally- Suit and Tie; Skirt and Jacket; etc.
2. Groom- clean, brushed teeth,etc.- and NO HEAVY PERFUME/Cologne.
3. Be 20 minutes early- any earlier you look desperate, any later you look
rushed or behind- which means unorganized and unreliable.
4. Be prepared- know the job and KNOW the employer- who is the CEO;
how many beds; etc.
5. Be yourself- NEVER LIE or make-up an answer. If you are asked a
question you do not know, then state clearly you do not know, but are
eager and willing to find the answer and learn.
6. MOST importantly- ASK for the job!! Most interviewers will end the
interview with, "Is there anything else you would like to ask" and if
the do, simply ask when you can start or say that you would really want
to be a part of the team. If you don't ask, then you really are not
interested.

I do not know how to show the threads on which one you should go to, but if you click on my name and see the threads I posted you will see the interview comments people made which will lead you to the other ones.

Hi congrats on grad and the interview.
On the student nurse forum there is a sticky called "Interview Questions" that you might want to take a look at. Helped me when I went for my first interview for RN. They asked some of the same questions that were on that. I was offered the job. according to the manager that interviewed me was b/c I was myself. Being fake will show through. If you don't have an answer for a question, jot it down and ask if you can come back to it or say, can I have a moment to think about it if you need to. Know something about the facility and ask questions, you might even ask to speak with someone who works there, best if done alone, to get an honest picture of the place. If they deny the request, I would question the facility.
Good luck on the interview!! Keep us posted ok
