First interview. Good or bad?

Published

I will graduate with my BSN in may. I saw an open position in the ED at a hospital I would love to work for so I went ahead and applied. I have completed my senior preceptorship in the ED aNd have loved every second of it. I prepared for the interview with practice questions, and reading up on the facility's census and mission statement.

I went into the interview very confident. I feel like I answered the questions very well, and expressed I am not a rookie to this atmosphere but also at a point I can still be molded into the nurse they need. When I asked how many other applicants there were for this position, they said they lost count but around 80. They complimented me on being well spoken, and for doing my homework about the hospital. They then sent me for a drug screen.

My questions: will experienced nurses automatically beat me out as a new grad? And have i surpassed a "first hump" of the interview process by getting asked for a drug screen?
