Ok, so tomorrow is my first test and I am somewhat at a disadvantage because I just received my books today. (Looooong story, I'll save you my financial woes for another day.) However, I have had the good fortune to have a buddy who let me borrow hers for a day. I read the chapters and felt pretty comfortable with the material. This is my first qtr and I'm taking fundamentals right now.

Would you be surprised if I bombed this? I am holding out hope that it won't be terrible and I'd be happy with a low pass. Please fill me on on how difficult your tests have been or maybe you were just surprised that you did well/bad on a test.

My more pressing matter is drug calc. My first test is Friday and I am desperate to know how hard the pharmacology questions have been for you guys. I've been told by a few others that the first test contains little to no math and is based more on familiarizing yourself with the terms, etc.. Any experiences you care to share would be greatly appreciated!!!

Every program is different. We had two math questions of every test, starting with the first one. (in addition to having to pass a math proficiency exam). My experience with pharmacology questions have been pretty simple. They want you to know what the drug does, what are the major side effects (ignore N/V, diarrhea, etc cuz all meds cause those, just pick out the unique side effects). Also, if the patient has to take it with food/without food, if they have to follow a special diet (food restrictions, like with coumadin, MAOI's, etc). Just get a general idea of the meds, make some flash cards and create some funny pneumonics (sp?) to help you remember the important drug stuff. As for my experience on the first test, I made 100%. I found it to be incredibly easy. But then again, each program is different. C=RN.

Good luck on your first test!

hmmm. . .somehow i'm not as confident as you seem to be. try reading some of the information in this thread:

if your drug calc is on abbreviations there is also a thread that has some very good links to medical abbreviations on it:
