So I started Weds. with orientation...8 hours of videos, quizzes, reading, and signing my signature about a 100 times. Thursday came in to start orienting on the small med/surg floor....They told me I'd be up there before I go to the immediate care, which is the job I was told on the phone. Fine by me, allows me to brush up on med/surg. Well on their med/surg it's only 12 hour shifts...not fun...was on the floor 7a-7p with another orientee, one RN, one LPN, two CNA's....and 9 patients...It's more of a rehab floor so there was basically nothing to do! I followed the lpn as they have the lpn doing all med passes... Leave at 7, drive through the snow storm home. Have to come back in Friday for another 7a-7p. Got to do a little more stuff but still...more time spent twiddling my fingers because of the low census. This is where I got a little PO'd...Besides not really having any schedule for orientation, I find out from the manager in the immediate care, when I had to go down there to get a vial of Decadron, the NM for the med/surg floor said I was hired for there, not the imm. care. I was like WHAT!? Because when HR called me to offer the job, she said per diem in the imm. care. So Monday I will be finding someone to get some clarification on what is going on....I did not say yes to be working 12 hour shifts on a rinky dink med/surg floor....imm. care is 8 hour shifts. It's been chaotic and now this? It's fine if I'm going to be up there for a bit till they feel I' fine to go down to the imm. care...which is rinky dink as well....But I also know they are trying to get more RNs on the med/surg so I don't know if they think it's their way to get what they want...People seem fairly nice enough but you can't trust anyone and with another orientee who has more experience, it seems they've been pushing to get her going and leaving me sitting around, wondering what the next move is...
I get to go back in Mon and Tues....off Weds/Thurs...then go Fri/Sat/Sun which I'm not thrilled about at all....
