Hi everyone
I graduated in December and accepted a position in Mother/Baby at a local hospital :). I begin a week of hospital orientation tomorrow. I know the first day is Human Resources stuff. What can I expect for the next four days?

I'd hope THEY would have given you a broader picture of orientation, but I'm going to take a shot at it :)
If you have the usual 4-6 week orientation, your first week is mostly about policy, paperwork, employee information, who to go to about what, how the units work, etc etc.
After they cover that, it's hitting the floor with a preceptor, and taking on the role as the nurse with a smaller patient load and the preceptor to back you up on what you need to know, offering advice, information, suggestions. You build up to a higher patient load or higher acuity after you get more comfortable with skills and knowledge base.
Congrats, and best of luck!
