I'm a new RN. My first job is in a behavioral health facility and I'm super excited, but what do I bring with me to work? Is a small tote bag ok? I would like to have my drug book, stethoscope, pen light, pens, clipboard. Anything else I may be forgetting? Thanks!

Dear new RN -- welcome to the world of behavioral health!! Sounds like you have enough of the needed items, but the most important thing is to bring your good listening skills. I sincerely hope you get a week of orientation with a good fellow RN. Looking back to my first experience some 20 years ago, remember to try and not let these patients see the fear in your eyes -- they are so good at manipulating those RN's that they detect weakness in. It is a wonderful field, far less detailed than the medical units, but it can be a dangerous and stressful place. Always put your safety first and never put yourself in situations where you have no backup. Good luck and enjoy.

Bring your sanity. It's usually on short supply there.
Seriously, it sounds like you've got it covered. Whenever I bring anyhting to work, I think about what would happen if a Patient got ahold of it. Sooooo, I never bring anything to work which could easily be used as a weapon. Just in case my private property fell into the wrong hands. You know?
Good luck to you in your new position, butterflyflower.
