First clinical

Hello, I just finished my pre-req. stuff and will be starting my clinicals this Fall. I was just wondering if anyone had some information about what to expect, how I could prepare myself for clinicals...Just nervous and can't wait to dive in!! Thanks

congrats on finishing your pre-reqs!!!! preparing for your first clinical..........hmmmmmm........impossible...:)

good luck in your quest, soon you will be a :nurse:

Our first clinical was at a nursing home, we did baths, made beds, mostly CNA stuff. We were at the nursing home for 6 weeks, then at a hospital, where we did assesments, gave meds(our instructor watched and checked every med first, and watched us give it) Don't forget to check the pt's name bracelet before doing anything for them.I love clinicals. Good Luck:)

How exciting!!! I'm still finishing up pre-req's...but soon I'll be where you are...and just think...at that point you'll probably be worrying about the NCLEX...not your clinicals! ;) Good luck!

Good Day!

I just wanted to share my experience during my first clinical practice which was in a resthome/olderly hospital as well. I am quite surprised that you can actually give medications to your assigned patient, though with the instructors supervision. But we nursing students (first year) in Unitec (New Zealand) are not allowed to give medications to our patient, only the RN!
