Hi everyone!
Okay, I have just about had it with all the runaround I've been getting. So, I decided I should just ask all of you. How exactly do I go about getting fingerprinted and getting my full criminal history done?
SB police department says that the State Police post is supposed to do it, and State Police said I do it on the web?! That's only a limited criminal history, and it costs $16 something. The one I am supposed to have is $10.
What do I need to do?!! I'm so frustrated, and I feel like the clock is counting down on me here!
Thanks,
Kate

In Madison we were only required to get the limited criminal background check which was 10 dollars. I went to the local police department and they fingerprinted me. I then sent this with the form the nursing department gave me and in about 2 weeks received my criminal background report back.
A full background report is going to cost you more than 10 dollars I would think. You probably just need the limited check but I would ask the nursing department. Good Luck!

Oh, Honey. I feel your pain!! Let me tell you.
At Indy, we had to get the full background check as well and it costs $10. I live on the south side of Indy. The form said we have to have our local police dept. do our fingerprints. So I went to Southport PD. They wouldn't do it. I then went to IMPD Southeast district. They wouldn't do it either. I was in Muncie getting child support printouts and decided to try Muncie PD. They did it, but they charged me 10 bucks for the print card.
It was a massive run-around, but I finally got the print card. After paying 10 bucks for the card, I then had to buy a money order from the post office for the other 10 bucks to send off to the place downtown for the background check. That was a couple weeks ago and I still haven't recieved it back yet. I tried to track the money order to see if it's been cashed yet, but I will have to pay more money to do that.
I could have gone to downtown Indy to get it done there, but I would have had to pay for gas/parking and all that. All in all, it was a huge headache but it's done and hopefully I won't have to mess with it anymore.
I just did some searching and this stuff is hard to find even online. Geesh....anyhow. Here's a phone number of someone that -should- be able to help.
"History Record for Individuals over 18 :You may contact the Indiana State Police @ (317)234-2631 to request a full criminal history check. The full criminal history covers from age 18 to current age and gives the entire detailed criminal history but it can only be requested by the individual that the history covers."
You can't get the full history online because you have to give them prints. Let the hoop-jumping begin. LOL

on the national council of state boards of nursing, says that indiana does not require criminal background checks for nurse licensure applicants.
thats not true is it, because if thats the case then why do you do a background check for your school.
does anyone know if for the indiana state board of nursing if you need to go get a background check?
the info. i found on the nation council of state boards of nursing says it is true as of 5-2008.:stdnrsrck:
We have to get the background checks done because some clinical sites require it. I think they are covering their collective rear-ends in case anything were to happen.
Say a student goes in there and steals a bunch of meds, etc.
I'm not saying that's definitely the reason, but it sounds good to me. LOL

In valpo we only needed the limited criminal history check, which was able to be done online and printed out immediatly. It was 16. But there was a form you could of sent in to do it for only 10. I chose to do it online to get it back right away. No fingerprinting was required.. good luck all..

If you live in or near Indy, go to the State Goverment Center, to the State Police Headquarters. They charge $10, no inking (they have a digital machine) and I got my results back in three days. The process took less than 20 minutes, which costs a quarter at the parking meter.
