Finding Work as a New Grad

Looking for some help. I graduated with my ASN Dec 2014, passed my boards March 2015. I have been a medical assistant for 6 years, and have been working in a family medicine practice for 1.5 years. I have been working as an RN since i passed my boards in March

My issue is I want to work in Med/Surg but cant find anywhere that will hire me without 1 year of acute care experience.

I am from lowell, ma

I will be completing my BSN in May, any one have any advice where I can apply to

Hi,

I noticed Winchester Hospital has New grad jobs posted, you may want to apply. They have been posted for like a week and a half, so do it soon!

Good luck!

Annie

Where were those when I graduated 4 months ago? Lol All the Winchester postings back then said "no new grads!"

Best of luck to you OP. I am working outpatient so I don't have any helpful advice for you, sorry.

I precepted at Winchester and had an awesome experience! Really want to apply for the new grad positions there, but the ONE instruction they have in the postings is "NO REALLY, PASS NCLEX FIRST"... and I'm still waiting for my ATT! >_

My advice is to wait until you have your BSN - which hopefully will be in some months. Once you are BSN, apply to LGH, Lahey, and perhaps also smaller hospitals. You can also apply to one of the hospitals in Boston, but the commute from Lowell to Boston is not that great.

You should not apply to new graduate positions because you have been a nurse for a while already. Med/surg has a high turnover, they always open up positions. Because the area is so competitive it is important to have somebody look over your resume to ensure it is free of mistakes. Use a modern format that is easy to read (bullet points) and also use some power words. Write a cover letter in which you sell yourself and why they should hire you. Highlight your outpatient experience as valuable, point out that you are very team oriented, work in a culturally diverse community, interested in effective patient teaching, interested in care transitions.....whatever applies to you.
