Finding preceptorship in northern CA

Hey guys,

I am looking for tips to finding preceptorship for NP school as my school doesn't provide them. I am fustrated as I have contact a local hospitals and clinics with no luck.

Have you tried asking your PCP? When I was doing the necessary physical exam paperwork for NP earlier this past month I asked my PCP if she'd be open to being my preceptor and she didn't mind (I've actually seen her in the past years have student NP's and PA's from the exact school I'm going to so I kind of figured she'd say yes). I'm one of the few lucky ones to get mine so quickly and she said she'd stay with me the whole 2 years.

You may also want to consider asking friends and family about their PCP. I don't think any NP school "provide" preceptors because the hours vary depending on your personal schedule as well as the clinic (for ex there is no guarantee that you will always be at clinic every Tuesday). But I would imagine they should provide recommendations. You should see if you can get in touch with any alumni and ask them about their preceptors. I'm in SoCal and during orientation last week one of the instructors did mention to us that if anyone is located in Northern Cali that students have had difficult times finding preceptors because of the location and most end up driving 1hr+ to find a clinic.
