Financial Aid for Nursing School?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have a question for anyone that may be of assistance. I am 37 years old, single and have three kids. I am busting my butt on my prerequisite courses because I desperately want to get into nursing school. I've wanted to be a nurse ever since I was in the first grade. My biggest worry is how in the world will I pay all of my bills while I'm in the nursing program? I currently make $13/hr. and know that as a CNA i'd never make close to that, but am wondering if anyone out there has been in my situation and managed it, (and if so, how did you do it?), or knows of any helpful information I should look into. Thanks!

Good question that I wish I had an answer to. I'm hoping someone knows how to handle this as well.

Specializes in no specialty! (have to graduate first!).

I am a 26 year old single parent. My solution was to admit defeat and realize I can't be successful if I am being a parent full-time as well as working full-time. So I quit my job and applied for low-income housing. My rent is $43 dollars a month. And my low-income apartment is bigger and nicer than the one that I was paying $1200 a month for. I only work enough to pay my bills, put food on the table and fill my car with gas. (My daughter just turned 3 so she isn't in many activities yet.) I am so glad I made this change because I am now doing much better in school because I have the extra time to study.
