I would really like to take the CNA course here in my state, PA, but can't seem to find any info online regarding Fiancial Aid. I realize the class is only around $800. But $800 is $800 when you don't have it. Working for a facility that provides help isn't an option at this time either. One of the facilities reimburses you after you've paid for the class and successfully completed the course and passed the exam...still don't have the money.

if you can't get a stafford loan (which you probably won't if its not a DOE accredited institution) you can try to get a Sallie Mae private loan. Also if you get hired by a nursing home do they not provide the training/certification?

I am located in Wester PA. I just submitted an application to a local Nursing Home. I have been talking back and forth with the HR Manager for a couple weeks now. At their facility they actually pay you while you go through your CNA training.
What also sparked my interest to do it this way is that I have wanted to go to Nursing School for a long time now, but with a family and other bills, I couldn't afford it. This Nursing home has a couple different tuition assistance programs available that will allow me to go back to school!! I'm so excited!!
I really hope you find something that works for you...maybe if you look around something like this is available in your area. Good Luck!!

PinkHoyt,
By federal law, the facility that hires you has to reimburse you for the cost of the course and certification. You get 50% of the amount after you work the first 130 hours and the remaining 50% after the NEXT (i.e. at the 260 hour mark) 130 hours. If you can't afford the cost of the course, you can try finding a facility (LTC or Hospital) that provides the training. I understand, though am not sure, West Penn and UPMC both offer the training.
Good luck!
