I am starting my third and final trimester. I should be jumping for joy, but instead I am stricken dumb. For some reason, I am so anxious and scared about the final trimester that I can't rest and enjoy my break. To be honest, I almost failed out the previous trimester by 4/10th of a point in one of my classes. My school has a policy that you fail out of the program if you fail out of any one class and an 80 is needed to pass. It is almost certain that it was a hell mary pass on my medsurg test that got me the high grade needed to stay in the program. Normally, I am a good student, but I got behind on paperwork due to Murphy's Law at home. I also watched some very good friends fail throughout the year.
Hmmm... now that I write this, perhaps I am afraid of failing out in my last trimester - fumbling the ball inches from breaking the goal line?
Has anyone else felt like this? What did you do to overcome this nagging feeling and prevent failure?
Thank you.

Can I ask what state you're in? I ask because we had a very strange instructor who reminded me of Cruella Deville who tried to pull this crap on us. Our school indicated that in order for us to pass the first semester we meeded 70% to pass off our of classes, except math it had to be 100%. For the remaining semesters we had to maintain a 75% in all of our classes. Our instructor Curella Deville tried to make it at 80%. But I thought I had read on the BVNPT website stating that nursing schools requirement was 75%. It was awhile back so maybe I'm wrong. But anyway we went to our Director and she set this woman straight. This lady never did follow the syllabus, and she used books that we never even had access to. She would use powerpoints that she made on her own and didn't even copy any of them for us. She wouldn't even let us bring in a tape recorder to record her lectures. She was a mess, but thank God they got rid of her before the semester was over. Anyway, my whole point being, check on your state website, there could be something stating there as to what the minimum passing score is for all nursing schools. It should be across the board.
Another thing I want to mention, please try to stay positive. I too was in your situation. In my third semester I came out with a 79% in med surg, and I was practically sweating bullets during the final exam because that exam was soooooooooooo hard. I didn't think I was going to make it, but I did. I was maintaining a 84% but the final exam pulled me down to a 79% which meant I didn't do great on that final but either way I did pass my third semester.
Remember this is your last semester in the program. You have a clean slate across the board just focus and study, study, and study. Put all the negative thoughts out of your mind because there's no room for negativity. If you think negative things, then negative things will happen to you. Think positive, and give it your best shot. Good Luck!
Thank you for your response NurseCubanita. I am in TN. I love my school and teachers very much. I think they really care about us and can be hard on us to toughen us up on the floor and get us batle ready. Good thing too, cause I've seen some mess on the floor over the years (not referring to my clinical site, but at places I worked over the years).
Just about every school around here requires an 80 to pass and if you fail one class, then you fail the program. I am sorry your teacher was unreasonable. I am glad you found a way to to make it work. You are right. I am being too negative. I am going to work on that.

I've never felt like this BUT some of my classmates have and I talk to them. I just want to say that you should just study a little harder and longer and see if that helps.
You have gotten to your last semester so don't give up now!!
