Filipino RN denied of NCLEX-RN, plans to take NCLEX-PN

Published

Hello everyone! To start with, let me introduce myself.

I am a college-graduate Filipino with a degree in BSN and recently passed the Phil. Licensure Exam who just moved here in California last March and thus trying my best to pursue a career in-line with my chosen profession.

The first thing I did was to apply for NCLEX-RN. Today, I just got CA BRN's reply mail and as expected, I was denied to take the exam because my MS and OB are non-concurrent. CA BRN suggested that I enroll in those courses and complete my deficiencies to be eligible for the exam. But of course, that requires money. So definitely, the best path that I consider in mind is to become a LVN, work hard and save enough so I can send myself to school.

I plan on applying under Method #3: Equivalency of Nursing Education. I've read all the requirements and it states here:

BVNPT - Method 3: Qualification Based on Equivalent Education and/or Experience

that along with equivalent education, one must also have 51 months of paid inpatient bedside care experience.

Here's the good thing: if one has graduated from an approved BSN program, his/her bedside care experience can be substituted from that requirement, but still, he/she needs to request from his RN director or supervisor to fill out this form:

http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/pdf/55a-12.pdf

and then coordinate with his employer to certify the mail before sending it directly to CA BVNPT.

I didn't have the chance to work in a hospital in the Philippines and have an employer and a RN supervisor or director but what I do have are my clinical duties/RLE (related learning experiences) which scopes every area of nursing practice stated in the requirements, and formal BSN education.

Do you think I will be eligible if I apply for NCLEX-PN given my situation and that I submit all other requirements (transcripts, etc.)?

What should I do?

What are my options?

Thank you very much and God bless you.
