Question...I am very interested in a position as an L&D nurse. That is essentially the entire reason I went to nursing school. As a new grad I started in postpartum and was there for 17 months. I coulnd't work stand working nights any longer so I took a position at an urgent care clinic and have been there for almost 5 years. It seems most postings require experience in L&D and current Fetal Heart Momitoring cert. I was wondering if I should go ahead and take this course on my own or wait until I can find a facility that is willing to train me? Any input would be great!!

If you haven't had any L&D experience, then any place that would hire you would expect to train you, and along with that training would be sending you to Advanced Fetal Monitoring class. The class/certification is really only expected of experienced L&D nurses, going into a job in which they are expected to hit the ground running.
Ok Thanks!!
