Feeling faint during maternity!

Published

So I am in my third semester of nursing school and we have had many different rotations. I have seen leg amputations, nasty wounds, lots of blood... Nothing bothers me. However, 2 times now with my maternity rotation I have gotten really hot and then felt sick to my stomach. The first time was during a simulation in lab- it was really odd. This time was during a circumcision of an infant. Its embarrassing and I had to walk out pf the room everytime and everyone says my face gets really pale. I had a very traumatic birthing process and almost died with my son 2 years ago. I am thinking this may be why I am having this reaction ONLY in the maternity environment. I find maternity the most interesting but obviously if this keeps happening I probably shouldn't get into maternity. I feel like everyone is thinking why am I even getting into nursing after seeing me do that. Has anyone else experienced this? I also know I am getting more worked up when it starts to happen. Opinions? Advise?

Yep. I was the same way. I find all women's services nauseating for some reason and even had to walk out of a c-section to avoid fainting (close call). I haven't had any traumatic experiences, I just didn't like it for some reason. And if you watched a baby boy's genitals get mutilated and didn't punch anyone in the face, you did better than I probably would have.

My solution was to make it through the semester and not work in OB.
