Hey everyone,
I've been a silent reader on this site for some time now and was initially afraid to make this post but I could really use some advice right now .
So I'll be graduating this summer with a B.S. in psychology with a 3.2 gpa. I know its not high/competitive and I regret goofing around my freshman year but I buckled down and was able to make A's and B's during my last few years. The thing is that I really want to get into Marymount's accelerated BSN program. I know that if I do well on the prereqs, TEAS test, have good recommendations and essay then I have some kind of shot (if any). The problem is that I took anatomy and micro during my freshman year and withdrew from both. I already have an A in sociology and psychology and a B in Stat. I was planning on taking chem, anat and micro at community college and strive for an A. I'm just afraid that my withdrawals from those two courses will affect me. I'm also afraid that my lack of work experience might affect me as well (I do volunteer but I'm afraid that its not enough). I've been reading posts of how some people with stellar grades and background had been rejected so now I'm feeling like there's no hope . Do you guys know if anyone was accepted with a low gpa/lack of experience? Are there any other schools in VA that I should look into that only looks at pre-req gpas?

If you can't get in to that Marymount program, you can do a joint program with a community college and ODU and get your BSN that way.
You get in to a VA CC nursing program and take all the classes for an associates while also doing classes online with ODU for the BsN
.
I got in to a CC nursing program with a lower college GPA than you, but straight A's for pre-reqs. Once you are accepted to a CC program, admission in to the ODU program is automatic. I start this fall and will be done in the summer of 16.

If you don't try, the answer will always be no. Good luck!
Thanks PVCCHoo! I'll definitely look into that. Though I'm a bit worried about applying to nursing programs at community colleges because I hear they're really competitive. It's good to know that there are other options though so thanks! :)
Also, thanks Pixie.RN! I'm definitely not giving up that's for sure.
Look at it this way. You already made it through a four year program. Getting in to a nursing program at a community college should be a breeze. I don't know anyone in my classes who already had a degree that was not able to get in to a nursing program. Just focus on getting A's in all the science classes and you will be fine. They want students they know will finish the program and they know degree holders can handle the work.

Shenandoah University and also a great option! 15 month program. I'm currently in their 2nd degree accelerated program and really like it. Also, I live in Arlington and commute....it only takes 30 minutes. The program is in Ashburn.
Also, I don't think you will really have a problem getting into Marymount. Just continue doing good and you should be fine.
