Hello, need clarification.

That is about all I got in my notes. I don't have a specific question. Just don't have info on it. Not even a example of a question that might be asked. Not even sure if this is the correct formula.

example:

undiluted divided desire% =toal diluted volume

240/.75=320 mL

total dul. vol - undiluted = water needed

total dil vol 320-240=80mL

water needed + undiluted = ?

80+ 240= 320 mL

I know this is a late reply....if I'm understanding the steps, it seems right to me, the last equation.

At my hospital we get off easily, our dieticians figure out the dilutions, then basically tell us how much to add of what. It's not hard, but it's just spelled out in black and white. We don't often dilute tube feedings, either, tho.

Thank you for your reply. The example may be write but I used it and did not get the test question right. I asked and I need to set it up in a dimensional analysis.

Well, I will have to ask again. I don't have a question up there. I don't see another number to work with and put X with. The final is next week and maybe there will be another one of these. So you are not to late. I will post a question later after I ask. ~sigh~

Think of the total volume to give( 320mL) as the 100% (tube feeding and water) therefore you start with the 320mL you need to give and multiply by .75% to find out how much of the total is say, Jevity;

(100% of solution needed)

320mL X .75 =240mL of supplement (Jevity)

then subtract that from the original number to get the volume of water added to make a solution of 75% Jevity (and water);

320mL

-240mL

80mL of water+ 240 mL of Jevity= 100% solution of 75% Jevity

Does this help? I just reread your post, are you saying you are required to solve this with DA? If so I won't be much help since this was the only way I was taught to solve tube feeding questions...
