Hi there NC nurses, I'm moving to Fayetteville soon and am hoping to get a job at Cape Fear hospital. I was wondering if anyone had any information on daycare or preschools in the area, maybe one that you used and liked or heard good things about? I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Bridget

I worked at CFVHS until a few months ago, there is a waiting list for the hospital daycare, but I believe very soon they have a few more rooms opening up that should decrease the wait time and the facility is WONDERFUL! The teachers are amazing, caring and professional and the price is comparable to daycares that are not nearly as good outside of the healthcare system, although a little high in comparison to home daycare. The problem you will have in Fayetteville until you can get your children into the hospital daycare is finding a decent place that works with a nursing schedule (unless you have someone to pick the kids up at 6:00. While you are on the waitlist, Bordeaux Creative School is close to the hospital and pretty good, a lot of people like Burns Daycare, which is kind of a hybrid home daycare/center. Good luck to you.

Hi, thanks so much for taking the time to answer and for the information. I will look into the daycares that you mentioned. That is so great that Cape fear has a daycare center! Hopefully the waiting list will not be too long. Thanks again for replying!

There are MANY daycare centers around the area that open before 6 or at 6. Remember Fayetteville is a military town and mostly all soldiers start work at 630 (physical training, etc). You will definitely be able to find a daycare that will work for you.

The issue is not so much finding a daycare that opens at 0600 or earlier, but finding one that stays open past 1800, or actually 1930/2000 when we are getting off work! When my husband was deployed and before my son came up on the hospital's waiting list I was horrified at the selection of daycares that were open for "second shift" or 24 hour care, I visited 9 or 10 before giving up because they were dirty, unprofessional, not places I would ever consider leaving my son, but again IF you have someone to pick your child up by 1800 then your options are considerably greater.

Hi there,

The hospital does have their own daycare. I think there is a waiting list, depending on how old your child is. If I am not mistaken, if you work on weekends, you need to supply them with a copy of your schedule. (I suppose to make sure you aren't just dropping your kids off to get some alone time)

I think they open at 6 a.m. and possibly close at 8 p.m. I think it works that way because of the 12 hr shifts. The daycare is located one street down from the hospital.

I saw someone mention Bordeaux creative school. My child goes there, very good school, prepare them for preschool and kindergarten. The only bad thing is that they open at 6:30 on the dot. Bad when you are supposed to report in to work at 6:30. It is located across the street from the hospital.

When I worked at CFVHS my daughter attended the hospital's daycare. I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. All of the teachers were wonderful! They were open until 9 pm which was great if you ended up having to stay after your shift to tie up loose ends. They also had weekend care. I just happened to luck into a slot. I was very unhappy with the arrangements I had at the time and they happened to have a slot available.

I use the daycare at Cape Fear and cannot say enough wonderful things about them. Yes there may be a waitlist but if you tell them you're an RN, you get priority placement. If you are in the process of getting hired, go by the center the day you get the "you're hired" call and start the pre-enrollment paperwork. While you're getting all that filled out, they'll get you on the list (if there is one right now) and you're more likely to get in faster.

Good luck!
