Nurses General Nursing

Hi all, I'm a newer nurse working on a progressive care unit and not loving it... I'm researching and investigating what unit/specialty/type of nursing I might like to try next. I'd like to know what you all have found to be the best area in your nursing career. TIA!

As you can see from my heading, I've worked in several areas of nursing. I enjoyed each and every one.

However- my liking or disliking an area was contingent on the staff with which I worked. For example, I loved working OR at Weed Rover Township Hospital (WRTH) but heavily disliked it at St. Anomaly's Health Center. It was all contingent on coworkers and administration.

Another example: I worked psych at WRTH, Anomaly State Hospital, Butternut Mental Health Clinic, Continuity Counseling Mental Health Clinic, and finally, Wrongway Regional Medical Center. The only job I disliked was at Anomaly State Hospital and it was because administration and I did not get along.

Once again, it wasn't the nursing job, it was the people with whom I had to work.

Best of luck, Hsbyard04!

Agree that coworkers and administration are huge.

I like infectious diseases. The specialty is interesting, particularly during outbreaks, and the knowledge can be transferrable to other related specialties such as infection control, public health, travel health.

Flight nurse (rotor). I still work the ED when it's slow but when that signal comes I can't board fast enough because getting there and successfully doing my job gives me my purpose in life. Good luck to you.
