FAU Accelerated BSN 2012 Acceptance

Published

Hi everyone!!I didn't see anyone posting about this year's class, so I started a new thread. I just received an acceptance notice from Christine E Lynn College of Nursing. I was wondering if anyone else has heard back. I'm excited to get to know some of my new classmates. Go Class of 2013!!!Amy

Has anyone seen their info packet? I had called over a week ago and someone in the office told me this past Friday they were going out, but I am out of town (the last vacation!) and have been curious! Yes, there seems to be alot to do before we begin in May!

Thanks for sharing that...I got in and was very happily surprised and honored! LOL I was curiuos too what was required all along and could not find that info. I have a 3.6 undergrad, 4.0 pre-reqs and 93 HESI. Good luck.

Congrats everyone!

I'm still waiting on that info packet. Are they supposed to send it via snail mail? I can tell what would be in there. You will need background check, drug screen, vaccinatons, TB screen and CPR card. I suggest do your vaccines asap because you may need boosters. It just sux that they are usually not covered by your insurance. You will definitely need a sthetoscope, reliable penlight, reliable shoes (probably white) and a solid sense of humor :). I heard FAU students wear all white to clinicals (aww, we are gonna look like a bunch of angels).

As to me, I am very happy to start this AO program. Pre-req GPA 4.0, HESI 96%.

I didn't have enough statistics credits due to international diploma eval, but they still worked it out, probably thought it would be entertaining to watch a satellite engineer go thru a nursing program. Just wait for that enema practice!

See you all on 6th!

Hi everyone!

Amestar1234- I've heard that classes will begin Monday, May 14th.

I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone at the orientation on April 6th and definitley getting the information packet to start planning! Congrats Class of 2013!

Ariel

Geez, Blissberry, a satellite engineer?! Impressive!

In my previous incarnation, I was a counselor for people with disabilities, and more recently, a fine artist with my own studio, entering (and sometimes winning) area curated art shows.

While art is in my blood (both my parents are artists), I got discouraged from being taken advantage of by galleries, as much as the lack of sales.

I would love to hear from others what they did before embarking on this journey. I can't wait to meet everyone!

Thanks for the heads up regarding what we'll need. I'm a little disappointed to hear that our uniforms are white. For first, that's gonna show any stain, and second, it seems old-fashioned. Do you, or does anyone know if we will be required to wear them to class?

here is some info on your attire. It says nothing about on-campus dress-code. you can also find info on drug screens, background checks and health records. it is new to me to find out that FAU requires us to have health insurance. Oh well.

Adesh, nursing is an art and a science, so you are fit right in. As long as you are not afraid of giving enemas. LOL

What a nice thing to say Blissberry! I guess I'm not afraid to learn how to give enemas...would you like to be my practice partner? ;)

Ha ha! I apreciate your invitation, but I'm fairly certain they have manikins to practice on. LOL I will definitely let you take my vitals

Grrrr. Still havent received my packet. I check my mail every day. Has anyone started purchasing supplies? Or are you waiting for April 6th?In my past life I worked in business as a marketing and database analyst. So speaking of statistics and regression models- that was my cubicle life. I quickly started hating my life - hence the life/career shift. After I quit my job and moved to FL, I work as a server at ER Bradley's In West Palm Beach while going to school. So excited to meet all of you. Maybe those of us that have time can grab dinner/coffee/beers after the session on April 6th :)

Hi Amestar -- No, haven't received it yet either -- waiting eagerly! I've tried calling/emailing and haven't received any info. I was looking to schedule my AHA BLS CPR class, but won't buy any supplies or uniforms or nametags until I know what exactly we need. I think it's a great idea to get together for dinner/coffee/beers after the session on April 6th. I am game for any of the above. Life as we know it is about to be postponed so I'd love to get in a relaxing, non-stressful socializing event! Count me in! Colette

Colette my dear, our life is not exactly about to be postponed. Yes, to succeed you need to live, breathe and love nursing, you are gonna sleep with your books and maybe start drinking coffee. But! Don't believe all the gloomy posts people put on the internet about how nursing school blows and they don't sleep. Remember, people love to whine! Actually, they are right about the sleeping part, but wrong about lack of fun times. We are gonna make friends for life in nursing school, and we are gonna pretty quickly become a fun group.

Count me in for the social event by the way!

I haven't received my packet either, and it's making me paranoid...the other day I caught myself imagining that they'd made a mistake when they chose me--after all, the e-mail I got didn't identify me at all, just "Dear applicant," !

Regarding what the nursing program will be like--well, judging by the posts by nursing students on this website, webblogs, and youtube videos--everyone's experience is different. Some are overwhelmed, some are psyched, some get depressed, some excel. And probably most experience, by turns, all the above. I think the only thing we can count on is it being challenging. Which is why I am counting, COUNTING on you guys. There will be times when only we, and no one else, including parents, spouses or friends--will understand what we're feeling. And I promise to be there for you... to talk, to practice starting an IV---Hell, I'll even take an enema for you guys!! Go ahead, jam it in there!! (Okay so I'm kidding about that last one, I just thought I was starting to sound kinda mushy)

See you soon!

PS beer is better than coffee.
