family not supportive

Published

I have been working as a nurse aide for a little over a year now. I recently got a job at a local hospital as an aide also. At the time, I had just graduated college in psychology. I really want to go back to school for nursing just not right away. I have had a lot of family issues with my current aide job. I currently work 12 hour shifts, overnight, two days a week. I have had a lot of criticism from my family suggesting why I don't want a "regular job" or a "day job", "9 to 5".. and so on. Also, family has been telling me that I sleep all day. To be honest, yes I sleep all day, but only on the days I work. I get home at 8 am, sleep and wake up to go back to work.

I recently got another full time job, not hospital work, part time 3 days a week, to possibly help with the complaining. Even then, they ask me why I want to work there.

I am honestly very confused and frustrated. I don't know how I will ever get my family to understand.

I think you have to do just do what makes you happy and tune them out. I hear criticism sometimes too from my non healthcare family members as to why I work weekend nights but at the end of the day, they aren't the ones paying my mortgage or providing afterschool care for my kids. So really their opinions are just that, opinions.
