Hi there
I was hoping some Pediatric nurses can help me out. I am doing a course to assist in upgrading my education for Canadian Nursing. I have never done pediatrics in Australia and I am doing the course and one of the questions of my theory module is bugging me. I am using the Wongs Pediatric Nursing text.
My question is 'What are the barriers to parent participation in family centered care?
I appreciate your help
thank you

Some of these should be obvious. Intellectual capacity, socioeconomic status, the presence of other children in the home, parental illness, distance to the treatment centre, institutional constructs and professional caregiver characteristics are all factors. Think about these for a little while and see if you can come up with one or two defining statements for each and analyze how they effect family centred care.
Thank you JanFrn
The only two I came up with is 1. Socioeconomic status and 2. Cultural ie language barriers
Thank you for your help
It might help you if you expand them and look at each of these factors and how they impact on family centred care, rather than just making a list. How would you adjust for them if you were faced with one or more of them as barriers?
Thanks JanfRN
