I know none of you can tell me what the right thing to do is, but I'm looking for some advice, because I'm not sure at all here, and I hope some of you can help!
I just started my pre-reqs and my goal is to get into an aBSN program for Fall 2010. While researching schools I see that a lot of the schools want you to be totally done with your pre-reqs, they won't consider you otherwise.
Right now I'm taking A&P1, Intro to Psych, Chem 1 and Nutrition. I have my stats done already. My plan was to take A&P 2 over the winter (6 weeks) and then take Microbio, Ethics and any psych classes that I need in the Spring.
However, I'll have a wider choice of school to apply to if I wait and apply for Spring 2011 rather then apply for Fall 2010. Am I crazy to think I can get into a good program if I won't have all my pre-reqs done until the end of Spring 2010 for Fall 2010? Am I better of waiting?
If I wait my goal would be to take an EMT-B class over the spring and then work as an EMT-B while volunteering in a hospital during Fall 2010.

remember that you need to apply (usually) prior to the semester you plan on attending. Take that into account when figuring out what classes you'll have completed when you apply. If you're not completed with all pre-reqs, they'll ask you for estimated completion date. Something to consider though, my personal opinion is, if it's between you and someone who is completed with requisites, chance is they're going to go with the one who is done. Why? There may be a chance something will come up and prevent you from finishing.
What's 6 more months in the scheme of things unless you absolutely must take it at stated semester...
just something to think about.
and, you won't have to feel "rushed" if you try to push it. What are you grades? gpa? any volunteer work? working in the health field already? CNA??? those also are things to consider. remember, most places get about 380 applicants and only up to 34 spots...
I have a 3.11 with my first BS. I'll be in the middle of 2-3 pre-reqs in the spring (depending on where I decide to apply I might have to take ethics) and I'll be done after the spring. I'll be volunteering at a hospital.
I know that's not a lot which is why I'm worried and thinking I might be better off waiting the 6 months and getting more volunteer experience and if I get my EMT that's more experience right there. I don't know, I feel so stressed out here.
though emt is a great choice, i think most schools want CNA
That's also true, I can look into a CNA program. I was looking into EMT more hoping while I'm in school I'd still be able to pick up a few shifts a week if I could handle it.
