Fall 2019 Lonestar Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

Why don’t you qualify for financial aid?

Because I’ve already used all 90hrs, I’ve tried appealing and nothing. Financial aid was a loan, I never even got a grant from it.

If you did your appeal before getting into the nursing program, they will deny you on the fact that financial aid is based on the classes you need to take towards your degree. So since you are not in the Nursing degree field they will deny you! you should do another appeal once you get an acceptance letter.

Does that mean we need to apply for financial aid once we get in? What if we’ve already applied?

You can still apply for Financial Aid but its up to the school if they grant you the money!

How big is your wrist tattoo? Your watch might be able to cover it. We are required to wear a watch with a second hand and a stethoscope to clinical. Since someone asked on here, you don't need a specific colored stethoscope or brand etc. Only requirement is that your stethoscope has a bell and a diaphragm. You don't need a super fancy one. I bought one for $70 on Amazon. There are some that are $200-250. Not even doctors use those expensive ones lol only cardiologists so don't worry about those. They even sell some at the bookstore for $30.

Make up is allowed at clinical but no fake lashes or artificial nails. Your nails have to be trimmed and no nail polish.

I actually have a baby! Lol I started the program when she was 6 months. She's now 15 months. About half of my classmates have kids. I'll admit that it's very difficult. My mother moved in with me to care for the baby while I'm in school. My husband and in laws help a lot too. My friends who have kiddos in school and day care have a lot of help too from their support systems. I would say, make sure you have a support system and that their is someone with a flexible schedule to help you. Things come up that you might need to change your schedule. For example, our schedule this semester was supposed to be totally different but they changed it on us the first day of class. Lots of classmates had to talk with their baby sitters and daycares about the changes.

A watch won’t cover my tattoo. It’s an elephant blowing 3 hearts out of its trunk so it’s more long that’s the problem. But that’s ok!

my Mom doesn’t work and she’s really supportive when it comes to my baby so I’m sure she will help me. I guess as soon as I know if I got accepted I will just have to talk to her and my husband so we can all figure something out because he’s a sales manager at a car dealership so he works about 70 hour weeks which makes it hard for him to help out much with the baby. But I know it’s doable so thanks again for answering these questions for us!

I think It depends on the professor. I was just required 2, the karch focus on nursing pharm, and the med math book by buccholz. Total from amazon i think i paid like 65 or something.

I just finished taking Pharm this semester and we were only required two textbooks

@kvida92 Can you tell me when your mandatory orientation was for Cyfair . I am planning a vacation and want know around what time of year it was. Cyfair is my first choice and I want to make sure I do everything correct. Thank you for all the information you have provided us with. You are appreciated.

That was a lot of good information. CYFair's schedule sounds crazy. I like that most of the days still end around noon. That will give me time to go to work.

How is everyone’s Wednesday going!?

Going good. Happy Hump Day!! Now that I'm done with school. I don't know what to do with myself. I might try to read a couple books before Summer School. I've been wanting to read My husbands Wife, by Jane Cory and Liane Moriarty has a new book out. Since I most likely won't have time with Summer School starts. That should help the time go by.
