Fall 2020 Douglas College BSN intake

Published

Has anyone received any updates from the admissions office? I'm just wondering because I received three emails today in the following order:

The first one said that my tuition deposit, immunization forms and criminal check was approved and to attend the upcoming orientation session and so on, which was confusing because I never submitted those. The second email said that my application was reviewed and that students who finished their prereqs in Winter 2019 and earlier are to be considered for the fall 2020 intake. The third email just said to ignore the first email, and that students who finished their prereqs in Summer 2018 and earlier are to be considered for the fall 2020 intake.

During my short break at work, I was able to quickly read over the first two emails which led me to think that I was conditionally accepted to the fall 2020, but around 6 hours or so later I received the third email which I opened up after work. I had a feeling that the first two emails were too good to be true knowing that I finished my prereqs in winter 2018 with a 3.66 gpa. Just wondering if anyone is on the same boat as me, and if anyone has been accepted into the program!!

Just curious what ended up happening, were you accepted into the program? Hopefully you were.

I applied for the Winter 2021 class and have heard absolutely nothing from them to date. I really am feeling disillusioned by these long waits to know if they will offer an acceptance or not.

I've also applied for Winter 2021 and heard nothing yet.

Did anybody heard anything at all?

I emailed admissions and they said that they hope to finish working on the Winter 2021 applications by the end of April, so hopefully we will be hearing back soon!

I also emailed admissions and received this statement back

“ My goal is to have the manual review process completed by the end of April for the Winter 2021 2nd year nursing applications.”

manual review process? Seems strange since everything is on the computer. Nothing has been updated in terms of my profile since I applied. I did have two friends who finished with me in the fall of 2019 who applied to the Psych program and they were sent offers with days of applying and nothing has ever been updated on their profiles.

I am concerned that since I only completed in the fall of 2019 that my application was never going to be considered or reviewed since they clearly stated to Shoopedyowoop that only applications who had their pre reqs completed by Summer 2018 and earlier would be considered. If this is the case then I had no chance, nor anyone else who finished in 2019 which is annoying since the Adviser encouraged me to apply as she had seen someone get accepted within a year of finishing her pre req’s.

No, I was not accepted into Fall 2020. I have applied for Winter 2021 but have not heard anything ? I've applied for every intake possible since finishing my pre reqs and before this time around they usually take 2 months after I apply to let me know I'm not in the program. This time around I think they're taking because of covid19..

This is my first time of hearing of someone getting into nursing at Douglas within a year of finishing prereqs... I had a 3.7 GPA from my prereqs and its been around 1.5 years of finishing my pre reqs and unfortunately I have not been accepted to Douglas' nursing program. I've read around this forum and someone with an even higher GPA also waited around 2 years to get accepted ? It's hard to feel optimistic about the future considering how long we have all waited to start school and the whole COVID 19 situation but I'm sure there are brighter days. Good luck to you ?

Yes 1 year! I went and had a meeting with a nursing advisor (not a general Douglas academic advisor) prior to starting the Academic Foundations. She advised me to apply the moment I completed all the pre req’s because the shortest time that she was aware of someone getting accepted was 1 yr. I have also been told that Douglas is trying to come up with ways to shorten this excruciating wait for everyone. I am not certain but I think that is why they have wording on their web page that people who have completed the Academic Foundations will be considered first. I’m not certain but it’s my guess. Hopefully they are trying additional ideas to decrease the wait. I also hope we hear soon for Winter 2021. I feel neurotic checking my email so frequently.

thank you for your kind words ❤️ I'm glad theyre solving the long wait period at douglas, inititally a couple years of wait didn't seem that bad until I realized I have friends who started post sec the same time around me starting to think about their masters degree while I havent really started my second year LOL but now that we're approaching the end of April and we're expected to hear from them soon there's no no doubt that I'll be checking my email every hour ? please let me know if any you've heard back from them andi ll make sure to do the same

After the nursing advisor told me 1 yr wait, I have clung to that and somewhat ignored 2.5 yrs which I have seen others indicate here on the boards. I graduated from SFU in 2018 and immediately started at Douglas in AF. I have always wanted to go into nursing but seriously considered doing a masters in Public Health.
Absolutely I will let you know when I hear back from them. I just hope it’s positive for both of us and that it is no later than this week. I’ll be totally gray if it’s later than that ??

Hey guys, I am also in the same boat. Finished my prerequisites in December 2018 and haven’t gotten a response yet. I don’t know if this is because of the Coronavirus stuff going or not. My application account still says ‘pending review by admissions’.

hey guys, keep an eye out for emails and phone calls!! I got a conditional seat offer for fall 2020 today from the admission officer!☺️
