Failing grades and withdrawals

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello:) I had a couple of questions I was hoping someone could answer. My friend is hoping to apply to the BSN program at a local University but she failed one of her Anatomy classes with an F and is going to retake it in the spring semester! She has also retaken her Anatomy 1 and Micro already as well! She has used up all her withdrawals so she can not drop anymore classes. With that being said I was wondering will that affect her chances of being accepted into a program? Or does that depend on each program or school?I mean she has alot of withdrawals and she has retaken many of her classes. I think her GPA is like a 3.2. I was asking because she's not sure if nursing is for her and I am not to sure what to tell her! I am not even sure if she can get in.:uhoh3:TYIA

Your friend sounds like a marginal student. She's probably still qualified to get into some of the ADN programs - the ones that admit by lottery or waiting list anybody who meets the minimums. She's not likely to get into any school that has a competitive admissions process.

I think your friend should evaluate whether or not she is the appropriate student for any nursing program. Its hard getting into a program and staying in it and well...if she isn't doing well taking pre-reqs for nursing programs, I question her ability of keeping her spot in a nursing program if she gets in.
