Failing Anatomy and Physiology

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

In my college, you need to pass anatomy and physiology with a C+, preferably a B- at the least, to move on in the nursing program. I just got my midterm grades back today and quickly realized that I was failing A&P. My A&P grade is an average of my lab and lecture. I've only had one exam and one practicum (both one day apart) and failed both miserably. I have three more exams left in the semester, one of them this Friday, and 2 practicums left to bring my grade up. I'm worried that I won't make the C+ and that I won't be able to continue the program. Should I just withdraw now or wait a while longer?

Talk to your teacher. Work with her/him to figure out if you can make the grade you need, and what you have to do to accomplish your goal. That's what they're there for.

Talk to your teacher!!! Ask what you can do to make the material stick better. Maybe find apps on your phone or YouTube videos that explain the material where you can learn it better.

Stick it in and wait longer!

Sometimes, you might just have to figure out what studying methods works for you best.

Here are my tips for study (these are useful if your professor lectures based on the textbook).

I'm taking A&P I this semester and some studying tips have really worked for me; and I actually tend to need to study less.

1. Outlining: If you're on a specific chapter on the book, try to outline the chapter. Put definitions and ideas on different lines. This way, you're taking in information piece by piece and building on it as you go along. Also, you'll be able to identify what you don't exactly know. When you feed your brain small points in bullet form, you'll probably recognize the words or parts with their definition or location easily.

2. Flashcards: Use your outline and turn it into flashcards on Quizlet. All of my lecture outlines that I have made, I have turned them into Quizlet Flashcards. I can study on the go and quickly before a test or quiz.

3. Break it up: Study a bit everyday. You'll find that when you break up the studying, you're feeding information to your brain slowly. Then, you're mind will build on the information previously learned.

Make sure you focus on one topic at a time.

But, all in all, just find what works for you.

Another thing is just like what the others said, talk to your teacher. And also thing is to see whether you need to change the way you're doing your work.

Good luck!
