I HAVE BEEN IN SCHOOL FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS TO GET TO WHERE I AM NOW. I BEGIN BY GETTING MY GED 2 YRS AGO AND THEN RIGHT INTO NURSING SCHOOL.1 YR FOR CORE CLASSESAND WAS IN MY SECOND QUARTER OF NURSING PROGRAM WHEN I FAILED MY 2ND TEST. HAD TO DROP OUT, BUT AM GOING BACK IN JANUARY.HAVE BEEN TAKING CARE OF PEOPLE FOR YEARS, THE LAST TWO YEARS HAVE HAD TOO MUCH ON ME FOR TOO LONG. HUSBAND IS DISABLED, FULL TIME JOB AND SCHOOL FULL TIME.I REALLY NEEDED THIS BREAK. I GUESS I AM LOOKING FOR IDEAS ON HOW TO MANAGE ALL OF THIS.(I WILL BE CUTTING MY WORK HRS WAY BACK IN JAN.

Hi Joy,

Like another thread on this bb asked about, I think that working fulltime and going to school fulltime is asking for failure or a nervous break down. I don't recommend it.

Make sure that you have applied for all financial aid available. maybe there is something out there to help with living expenses while you attend school. Talk to school financial aid officers.

Ask your teachers or your advisor from your nursing program what they would recommend for you to improve your chances of succeeding. Knowing so little about you, it is hard to say whether you need help with time management, study skills or knowledge base. One thing is for sure. With nursing, you MUST put the time in on reading, re-reading the materials and doing the work.

Don't be discouraged. Look at this as a challenge to work smarter. The skills you learn in over coming this challenge will stand you in good stead over and over. One thing is clear: something needs to be done differently.

Be strong. It is hard now and hard to go back in there with your chin up, but if you want it enough and get some other things in place, you may pull it through. Talk to those people that know you (your old nursing instructors/advisor) and see what they can help you to "brain storm" up.

depending on the disability of your husband, can he take over responsibilities at home? That would be one less thing for you to have to deal with.

Working while in nursing school is hard, and working full time is almost impossible (i did say almost).

Student loans are available, even if you dont qualify for "need based assistance". They have a higher interest rate. But in my opinion, it is better to be in debt to a few years than to lose your sanity, and let other aspects of your life suffer.

Good luck, and please keep us updated.

Thanks for the replies that I got. I know I have to make my mind up to do the very best I can. I love taking care of people and I havent dealt with anything in the past 5 years of being a cna that I could not handle.I work in a small hospital and get a lot more chances to work with the more seriously ill and injured than most cna's that I work with because I ask to be involved and learn all I possibly can. The nurses and doctors let me do all I can.I have worked ICU and ER about half the time I have been there.I started getting frustrated because I couldn't do more to help, so I decided to do something about it and go back to school. I guess I did not realise what I was getting into, and overdone it with work and school. But come jan. I am going back and do things different.I really do want to be an LPN real bad. Thanks for being here for me.
