Failed Nclex-pn Twice...need Help

Published

I'm a wreck guys. I thought that i was prepared for this test but obviously i wasn't. I actually don't know how to start studying again having the mentality prior to taking it the 2nd time that i would pass. I know that i can take it again but I definitely need some morale boosting. Any suggestions you guys can give me so i can study a bit differently this time around? I'm about to purchase the Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX PN review book but i wanted to know should i wait for the new format to come out or should i stick with the version that's out right now. Do you guys think that waiting for the 3rd edition will help me more than the version that's out righ tnow? I honestly don't want to wait for the new version to come out but if it can really help me out then maybe tha'ts something i should do. Any suggestions would greatly help, thanks guys

How long r u studying for the test before you take it ?

I Passed NCLEX-PN on the 26th of last month, I used Mosby's Review book it helped alot. You have to pay attention to the rationals of the the answers in the review book this will help you to choose the correct answer on NCLEX. I used the 13th edition of the book and they came out with a new one before I took the test so I don't think that matters much. GOOD LUCK TO YOU (third times a charm ) .

Sorry that you did not pass, and we can help to get you thru it.

But please answer these questions first...............what did you use to prepare for the exam? And how did you use it? How many questions did you do before the exam?

You can go ahead and purchase the Saunders Comprehensive Review that is out there now, the only thing that will change is some of the newer type questions are in the book, but it is more important to have an understanding of the material, and what they are asking, than worrying about format of the question.

Hope that this helps.:)

Well actually what i did was i kept taking NCLEX type questions on the computer almost every other day. I would take atleast 100 questions and after would analyze what subjects i was weak in. I was particularly weak on OB, Neuro, Cardio, Musco, and Endo so i emphasized my studying on those subjects. Then a couple weeks before the examination I studied meds and cultural stuff. After that i felt i was ready and took the damn thing. Anything that i should change?

By the way, thanks for your reply's guys, any type of info you guys can provide will help me emmensely the third time around.

Which book and CD were you using? It is also important to review the rationales behind each and every answer.

As i stated above, I recommend the Saunders books. I have had the best result with nurses passing used after reviewing the rationales from these books.

Hope that this at least gets you started.:)

I guess the best book to buy overall is the Saunders NCLEX PN Comprehensive Review. After reading other posts regarding this review book i think it would best benefit me to use that book and study from that. Also, my mother (who's also an RN) suggested to me to take this 10-day Nclex preparation siminar to further help me in my studies. She says that students are going to be staying at a hotel for 10 days while reviewing different topics included in the nclex each day, all while studying in a group. It supposedly costs $400 to enroll but my question to you licensed nurses is do you think that this seminar is worth it? I believe that studying on the Saunders book alone is suffice enough but i wonder from you guys who may have possibly taken a similar program to tell me opinions on it. It seems like a good thing but is spending $400 really worth a program like that?

My personal thought again is that you do not need the seminar.

But, as I asked before, what exactly were you using to study and prepare? Not what you are going to do now. I can't help you with preparing if I do not know what you were actually doing before.

What did to prepare myself before were nclex questions on the computer at school. There's this program called "NCLEX-PN 2500" and i used that as my studying tool. I would take around 100-150 questions every other day and read over what i had gotten right and wrong. It then grades you in individual sections like Cardio, OB, Neuro, etc. Then whatever i was weak on i'd study them on my Mosby's Comprehensive Review book.

You need much more than that. Send me your e-mail address, and I will send you my program. It is geared towards the RN exa, but will still give you an idea of what you should be doing. It is very important that you also review the rationales behind each and every answer.

Please do not post your address here, send it to me by pm only.

Hello, All

I took the NCLEX study through Kaplin, another NCLEX study exam through University Pitts, then I took a review course through cca and I study every night after class 200 questions to 300 questions. I busted my butt and I had to fight the BON for special accomendations. I waited for a month and 1 week till I could sit. In July, I sat for the boards, had 83 questions the computor shut down and I was in there for forty five minutes. I passed.

During classes I was averaging 200 questions and 200-300 after classes. So, 400-500 questions per day for 44 days. It was worth the money for Kaplin and they have individual counseling as well.

You have to study with more than one book and you have to know your materials prior to answer the question.

Break down the questions, and look for what they are asking, then look for the information in the paragraphies and try to answer without looking a the answer. Then find your answers in the list below.

The key is what is the question asking? What information is relating to the question?

I feel that you may need to take a study course and obtain more nclex books. Go to Barnes and Noble and grab a book and sit in their relaxing chair and study. That was my favorite places to study.

Good luck to you,
