failed nclex, confused on next step

So I failed my nclex and the first thing I did during my franctic state as soon as I knew this was to pay the 200 fee to pearson to retake my test. However this feels wrong now and I am not sure if I should have done that. I called my state nursing board and the guy advised to call pearson and inquire on the next step.

I thought since I completed the initial application after nursing school that I would not need to reapply with paperwork to retake the test. Do I need to? Can someone shed some light? I am scared that I will lose those 200 dollars for getting ahead of myself. Do I need to file more paperwork and pay yet for fees besides the 200? I am gonna go broke!

I called pearson but they are closed today due to the holiday.

Thanks.

Depends on the state. Many you need to reapply to the BoN. Some states there is no fee ( in addition to the $200 testing fee) other states its a reduced fee for second attempt. Check your BoN website. Some have application to retest.

The minimum wait to retest is 45 days but it may be. 90+ depending on your state regulations. Your new ATT will not be valid until the waiting period is up. (Ex if you tested July 2 nd and if your state does not require a new application to retest or fee, you pay Pearson Vue your new ATT would not be valid until August 15th and thus the first date you could retest would be Aug15)

It's not possible to give you a more specific response since you did not indicate which state.
