Failed my Fundamentals and Pharmacology Class in the second semester of nursing school.

Published

Good Morning everyone, I am new here and just received my decision from my nursing school. This semester was my toughest semester ever and basically the first time I ever failed any class. I had some personal and financial issues that made me fall short of my studying. I knew that I couldn't pass my pharm class after the third exam but how did I fail fundamentals too? I really tried my best, I know I did but it was not enough. I am not even sad about retaking the class but the financial aspect is my biggest concern. I need some advice on what to do next. I don't have any form of help because I am an asylee in the US. I don't where to even begin.

1.  You need to talk to the professors that taught those classes and ask their advice.

2.  You should have an academic advisor - go talk to them and ask what your options are.

3.  Every school has different policies on students that fail a class or class(es).  Some will kick the student out.  Others will allow the student to retake the classes.  However, most nursing schools are run on a cohort system.  In other words, new students start in August or September and must go through the whole program as a group.  That means that retaking the class will require waiting a full year for the class to be offered again.  Some nursing schools have new cohorts start 2 or even 3 times a year, so that offers a faster chance to retake the class.  Some nursing schools are off for the Summer, and they may offer some classes during the Summer for this type of situation, so students can retake some classes during the Summer.

Again, you need to talk to someone at your school because every school is different.

Refugee students and students who have been granted asylum are considered "eligible non-citizens" and can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for federal financial aid such as grants, loans, & work-study programs. Your school's Financial Aid office should be able to offer guidance. As for re-taking the failed classes, speak to your advisor or the director of the nursing program at your school; different schools have different policies,

Update here, thanks to those who reached out and left comments on this post. After days of crying, I connected with my advisor and appealed for the reinstatement form for fall, but to my surprise I got accepted back in for Summer. It was a miracle cause they denied some other ppl. I also got another miracle, I wrote a scholarship last year and it was awarded to me 2 days ago. It is the same amount as the fees for the Summer classes. I wanted to give up, but God showed up for me. Thanks to the community here, it was reassuring to find people who helped during that hard time. I will not waste my second chance, bye for now 🥰🥰🥰

That is wonderful!   So glad things worked out OK.

When I was in nursing school, I struggled at times.  My professors told me not to be embarassed about talking to them and asking for help.  In future, do not wait - if you are starting to struggle, immediately talk to the  appropriate professor(s) and your academic advisor.

Best wishes.
