Failed CRNE exam being good prepared

Failed first time CRNE exam on february 2008.

I was sure that I will pass because I had 90% of success while training CNA prep guide (4-ed) and the exam appeared me easy enough.

I had a lot of questions from the CNA guide on exam.

Is it possible that exam questions could be slightly different (one - two key words) but I had already the answer in my memory...?

Maybe someone had similar problems

What is the difference between nursing prep guide 2-3-4 editions (I used only 4-th edition) and where to find early editions.

Taking private teacher (tutor) for this exam is good idea?

I read that pass rate for nurses educated outside Canada is much lower that Canadians (45-65% vs 92-95%),and I am one of them.

Hello Mctina_20 ,

Can you advise where i can enroll for any study group during weekends because im gona take my crne this june and i can hardly find any review center. Please advise.

Thanks,

Hello el_2008

memorizing the answers in any prep guide isn't going to help at all. What is important in passing exams like this is to understand test taking strategies. That is an exam with questions where all the answer options seem correct. One study guide I found very helpful when I took my exam was Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam with CD-ROM: Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam by Barbara Irwin (Author), Judith A. Burckhardt. (they have various editions, it costs about $35 but you can get it cheaper or used one from Amazon .It has about 360 questions in total. But the great thing about this book is that it gives you a good guide on test taking strategies. In this book they also have a section for international trained nurses. In addition to content review material like Saunders NCLEX -RN Review, the CRNE Prep Guide, you need this book to guide you in studying to pass. Believe me you might know all the nursing topic contents, but you don't understand the techniques needed to answer the questions correctly, it sure would be a big challenge to make it.

If you are in Ontario you can also contact the Care4nurses, they have some review classes for foreign trained nurses.

Good luck

if you are a foreign trained nurse you can check out care4nurses.org . they are helpful. kaplan also has a review class, you can check them out, but they are expensive though.

contact numbers do not need to be posted here, they can be found by looking them up on the internet.

Thank you, faithhopeRN

I made a review of CRNE with the Mosby's review of CRNE wich I found very good.

In your recommendation: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam with CD-ROM: Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam, I suspect the most interesting part will be "Strategies". Does this part of book is big enough (how many pages) and can it be applied to CRNE exam. Should I buy this book if I am only interested in this part?

In fact I am even planning to take a private CRNE tutor to explain me in dept these strategies... I didn't choose the right one yet.

This book also has practice questions(in the book and on the CD) with good explanations of the answer options that will help you understand how to apply the strategies. The book is about 300 and something pages Depending on your speed, you can cover the whole book in about 3-5days. THIS IS NOT ALL THE TIME YOU NEED TO STUDY FOR YOUR EXAM!!!. Look it up on Amazon for more insight and people's review on it. Study this book first it would help you understand better any other review material you choose to use.
