Im filling out my FAFSA for the 2009-2010 school year, and Im an independent student and on one of the questions asks Do you want to answer questions about your parents? I was going to put no, but then it says that I may want to if Iam a health profession student. Im a pre-nursing student, but I will be applying for nursing school later on this year so I can start in Summer/or Fall of next year. Should I just answer no? Why does it say you might want to put your parents information if you are a health profession student? Thanks in advance for answering my question.

I've filed quite a few FAFSAs.. However, my best advice to you is to contact your school's financial aid office for your answers.
That way, you know for sure you're getting the correct information. You certainly don't want to make a mistake
and be denied potential financial aid.
Best,

I thought if you were an independent student it wasn't required for you to answer questions pertaining to your parents income. If you are a dependent student then your parents income is calculated, and depending on their gross income it may prevent you from getting financial aid. You may want to double check with your school just to be sure.

It has something to do with the fact that there are special loans your parents (rather than yourself) can take out for your schooling if you are in certain programs
