F1 visa and pregnancy?

Published

Hi there,

I am wondering what would happen if you were studying in the usa on an F1 visa and became pregnant. Is it possible to study as long as you can then take a few weeks off for delivery and recovery then return to class without losing your F1 status?

Don't take my word for it but I believe that if you get pregnant with an american baby, then you will be able to become an american and will get the same rights that we have.

Hi there. From what I have read online:

Your visa will neither be revoked nor will you have to leave the U.S.

Although F-1 status requires an intention not to immigrate to the U.S., having a child born in the U.S. will not be a problem as long as you remain a full-time student. Also, since your child cannot sponsor you as a parent until the child is 21 years of age, there is no problem with having an intent to immigrate to the U.S.
