Extra pay for charge?

  • Experts

Hi,

Do you get paid extra for charge? How much? if you don't mind sharing. I don't and never thought much of it until I recently read that some people get paid extra for the extra responsibilities.

Good job you aren't in it for the money!

I think most of us do receive 1$/hr for taking charge. check your facilities policy.

My friend was really grumbling to me a few years back. Her little hospital had been bought out by a big conglomerate that just about runs everything around here. After they bought the little hospital out the big hospital took away the charge pay. At the time my friend was really complaining about it, said it constituted a $2000 a year pay cut with the same responsibility. Then things got worse, the big hospital shut the little hospital down.

Nobody gets charge pay on my unit.

I believe if you take on the extra responsibility of charge you should be compensated for it . If not why do it ? , is having some charge nurse time on your resume worth all the heartbreak of being Charge ?

Though going off topic ,what bothers me about some ( N.B. SOME )nurses who take charge , it's as though by accepting corporate gold ( :lol2: ) , they have accepted a pact with the devil and follow every little management directive to the absolute last letter .They will slash and burn staffing , change acuity numbers to make the staffing numbers work , then wonder why their fellow nurses are not happy with them . These Charge Nurses appear to worry more that the corporate officers meet their targets and maintain / enhance their income , whilst the bedside nurses are loosing income by being cut so much .

$1.50 per hour in my facility.

I get $2 extra per hour for being charge, which ends up being about 260 dollars or so extra a month after taxes. Doesn't sounds like much but it's nice. :)

An extra $1.50 an hour, but honestly it's really not worth the extra headache a lot of times. Many times when I am in charge I also have patients (usually the easy ones), but still have to do all the other charge stuff.

In my hospital the charge nurse gets about 1$ and hour. We have the 19 bed ICU where I work, plus we respond to all Codes, Rapids in the 1000 bed facility. does that seem worth it???

No extra money. Same patient numbers as everyone else and usually the harder patients since the charge is considered more seasoned. Responsible for all care plans, IVPS, blood administrations for the LPNS. Bed assignments, trouble-shooting and target man for irate doctors and administrators. Why, oh why, would anyone but a deluded egomaniac WANT to be charge? :uhoh3:

We get an extra $1 at my hospital. So, do the math...that equals $8 for the 8 hour shift. I would pay them $10 a shift to not make me charge. For all the headaches and added responsibility, I think it should be more than 1 dollar.
