I am new to travel nursing. I am currently working with 3 different agencies in order to better my chances of not having long lags between assignments. I am finding, however, that the job listings on the agency websites are old. It may look like there are a lot of jobs in a certain area, and then when I speak to the recruiter, they say there aren't any. I'm confused. Does anyone else experience this? It's very frustrating, and truthfully, a little scary because I am about to give up a full-time position to take this chance and I am the sole provider in my family.

Ignore postings on most agency sites (some like Cross Country and American Mobile are real), and all job boards. The jobs are not real, they are just "representative". It would take a while to explain why this is done, but you've already learned this is reality. Another reality is that they don't matter, until you choose a few agencies and get fully signed up (takes a while in the beginning), none of those jobs, fake or real are available to you anyway.
You are right to worry, and as the sole provider, giving up the security of a permanent job may not be right for you. If you can test the waters without giving up your job (leave of absence, in-house per diem), that might be the way for you to go.
Thanks NedRN. I am keeping my foot in the door as PRN at my present job. I am also signed up with a local agency so hopefully I will be ok.
