Experienced US RN wanting to work in Australia

Published

Hi All,

I have recently decided that I want to work in Australia (specifically Melbourne if possible). I have 4years theatre experience and have visited Australia twice and I am certain that I wanna move there.

I was wondering if anyone has any leads on how to get the international nursing process going. Is there an international travel nursing agency I can sign up with that will help me with the process/fees? Or do I have to apply on my own then once I am granted approval, look for agencies/hospitals?

Any tips on the process or AU nursing tips is always appreciated.

Thanks!

Reverse here, Aussie RN trying to work in the USA.

I would start with looking at AHPRA our national body for licensure in Aus. Unlike here our licenses are nationwide as opposed to being state-by-state. There should be a section for overseas trained RNs.

Secondly look for a nursing recruitment agency specializing in US RNs, they are full of great information and will walk you through the process. I found one that does the reverse and places RNs here in the US (a UK based company but had dealt with Aussie RNs as well) and even though I have not used them to get a job I did use all the information they provided to me to get through the credential evaluation and other red tape.

Here is the website for AHPRA specifically the area you are looking at: Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Internationally qualified nurses and midwives

Hope this is of some help!
