Experienced nurse moving to Plano, McKinney, Frisco Area

Published

Hi all, I am an experience nurse of 5 year working in the ICU for the past year and a half. Before this I worked Telemetry Float pool. I have my BSN, and will soon have my CCRN (September or so). I speak Spanish fluently. My plan is to move to Texas because LA home prices are ridiculous. Looking for a nice place, with good schools to raise my daughter who is 2 1/2. I am wondering what an experience nurse is making, hospital recommendations in this area, and also how the job market is out there. Any input will help, Thank you all!

P.S. I am moving from the Los Angeles area

Hi,

You have all the right qualifications so I'm assuming you won't have that much difficulty getting a job here. I think Frisco and Plano have good school districts and good residential areas. Pay for someone with your experience should be $30's (lower end of) plus differentials. I moved here a few months ago, interviewed with Texas Health, Baylor, and some HCA facilities. Texas Health offered the most money plus differentials of all the ones I interviewed with. I hope TheCommuter, one of the members here adds some input to your post. She's been here longer, moved from California too, and has some very helpful advice. All the best to you and your daughter...

Hey,

I personally think Presbyterian Plano is a great hospital and will be going to a level 2 trauma center in July so the ICU should be hiring extra nurses. They document on epic. Medical City Plano is also a level 2 trauma center with a busy ICU which documents on meditech. Then you have Baylor Heart Plano. I would stay away from Centennial in Frisco, I haven't heard very good things about the hospital. With your experience I would try to get at least mid 30's, especially if you are certified by the time you apply. I'm sure you will not have a hard time finding a job at all. But I would definitely look into Presbyterian Plano. I'm actually from this area but have worked a few travel assignments in California and was recently hired per diem at a hospital in Northern California. So I'll keep my home job and fly out n work per diem in California, but I'm single with no kids right now. Good luck to you!
