Specialties Burn

So I just finished my RN coursework and plan to take my NCLEX in June assuming I recieve my ATT by that time :/ Anyways, I've wanted to work on a burn unit since I started nursing school. While looking at different job postings for burn units I noticed they ALL specify that you need to have ICU experience and prefer applicants with previous burn experience but browsing through this discussion board I see a lot of people say they went straight into a BICU. So any tips? My plan is to apply anyways the worst they can say is no, right? I like to think I have a pretty solid background. Nursing is a second career for me. My first degree is in biomedical science and I have six years pharmacy technician experience so maybe that will somehow make me stand out?

My friend got into UCSD burn ICU as a new grad. He didn't have any burn rotations but his internships helped him stand out and his personality impressed the interviewers.

What kind of personality do you think works well on a burn unit? Is there a kind of personality that does well with the specialty or is it that units look for personalities that mesh well with the current staff?
