I only have this:
Practice makes perfect.
In school, I was unsuccessful every time I tried to start an IV.
After graduation, I got more practice at it, and therefore became more proficient. Every nurse has their good and bad days. I still have days where I couldn't hit a vein even though it is bulging out at me, and days where I can't miss.
Don't get discouraged, you will get better with practice, and don't feel bad if you can't get it on the first try. I have often had to make a second attempt (my personal rule is I try twice, and then ask someone else to try). Some hospitals are lucky and have IV teams, but mostly we just rely on each other.
