Excelsior RN to WGU BSN Prereqs Needed?

Published

Hi Guys and Gals!!!!!!

So I am currently an LPN in Ny looking for an RN program and BSN program concurrently.... I would like to transfer as many prereqs as possible into my BSN so I won't have a such long way to go when I go to WGU. I got a little discouraged when I saw the updated long list of classes WGU has listed for their BSN program which is broken up into 6 TERMS!!! I'm reading a lot of 50 CU's in 6 month and 8 month success stories. I would love to know a little more about the prereqs breakdown of credits from Excelsior to WGU if anyone has had any experience??? Thanks

Just to make sure I understand: you're an LPN going for your RN and THEN you plan on going to WGU? I ask because you must already be an RN to complete the BSN at WGU. Once you're an RN, you get 50 CU's (competency units) when you start the BSN at WGU. The prereqs depend entirely on what you have already done in your RN program. Some students need all the basics, like History and English, while others just need Nutrition, BioChem, etc.

As far as pacing, again it depends on the student. WGU allows you to complete as many CU's as you can each term (6 months) for one price. I believe now that cost is around $3,000 for each 6 month term.

I had never heard of WGU when I went for my MSN, but I wish I had; it would have saved me a lot of time and money. :-(

I am hoping OP means to complete the RN first - OP, I did excelsior (a loooooooong time ago) and did my BSN at WGU. I'm one of those 50 units in 3 months people. :) Most of your credits should transfer UNLESS you test out of A/P and Micro - without a lab, you will need to take those @ WGU with a lab. I did have to retake these, but they really weren't too bad.

Although very few finish in less than one term, I don't think I've seen anyone take six terms. Even if NOTHING transferred (unlikely), that would be 70 units and 5.5 terms - but the most I've ever seen was 54 units, 4 more than I had to take. Almost everyone finishes in 2-3 terms - some quicker, some might take up to 4 terms.
