Excelsior College

Is Excelsior College an online school to earn a degree in nursing? I was wondering if anyone knows this school.

Excelsior College is a distance nursing program, not an online school. If you live in CA, it is not an option for you as the CA BRN does not accept EC since Dec. 2003.

There is thread after thread about Excelsior College in the distance learning forum.

Thank you. I am really looking for a good school here in CA. I can wait but not that long. Some school require many prereq and some have a lesser prereq but you have to wait for a couple of semesters. I want to know a good college that I do not have to wait for a really long time.

Unfortunately you and I are in the same boat fromCalifornia. Excelsior isn't an option for us. When I contacted the CABRN they stated they will accept you as an endorsement application but you will need to work out of state as a RN full time for a year before they will look at your application. But then again, I've heard from others that they also contacted the CABRN and were told that they can't even endorse period plain and simple.

Excelsior is a very good school the only problem CA has is the lack of clinical experience once in the program. Excelsior evaluates your skills, in a two day clinical testing called the CPNE. From what I hear that clinical exam is very hard and some people have taken it several times before passing. Excelsior is strict but unfortunately CA doesn't seem to think so when it comes to clinicals. Although most of us have clinical experience from our LVN programs and also experience as LVNs which IMO, should be counted.

Quick Q. If an LPN passes the RN program and goes on for their BSN, say at...Stonybrook University...will that be the college that they put on their resumes? Or would they really need to list every little college they went to and took classes from..because that seems tacky.

You will put all colleges attended on your resume as they lead to degrees. ADN is a degree, BSN is another degree so therefore you would put both of them. Also now employers are asking to see transcripts from your schools. So really there is no way around hiding where you obtained your ADN or BSN from.
