Is there anyone on this forum that resides in Georgia and has graduated from this college and currently works? I am interested in attending the school but I am unsure of how things will go once I am done. Any information will be helpful. Thanks! :heartbeat

I live in Georgia and I am a Excelsior GN.... I am waiting on Excelsior to send my paperwork to the Gbon, so I can sit for the GA NCLEX... I have sereval friends who have graduated EC, and taken the GA broads recently( within 8 months) and are now working as RN's here in GA... However, of those who are working, they had significant, hospital experience as LPN's...
But for those, who don't ( I myself have not worked in a hospital any of my 4 years of being an LPN) or, are just starting excelsior ( 2008 - present), we will have to do extra clinical hours, after finishing Excelsior and passing the RN NCLEX, for the state of GA.
So to sum it all up... Georgia does, now except Excelsior, and you can sit for the Ga nclex.... But there are extra sitpulations ... Check out this link to the GA BON

Thanks for the clear and helpful info, Zoe. Hope that GA changes this policy in the future, but at least there is this avenue for students. Better than a blanket disapproval.

I am also a GN from Excelsior College, and I do live in Georgia. However, I am sitting for the FL. Boards instead of Ga. That is an option for you as well....No extra hours required over there...I like that better; I have put in my hours to earn a degree that should be enough don't you think?..Best wishes...
Hi Pancake... I was looking into that as well... But for me it would be a 2 to 4 hour ride one way to get to any of the bordering states:uhoh3:... So it's not not realistic for me to be able to work in another state for a year, until i could endorse back into GA... Because, Ga is not letting anyone from EXCELSIOR endorse into GA without one year of RN acute care experience, and unfortunately if someone does try to endorse in with out the stated experience, they will be subject to a preceptorship ( 350 hr for lpn, 700 hr non lpn ) or no GA licence ... I know working at a government facility is a way around it, but i would hate to not get a government job... Then what....
But i wish you all the luck and success!!... Are you planing on working in FL for a year?
Thanks for that information on the zoeyzoe....it was very helpful. :)
zoeyzoe, yes, I will be working in Florida for at least a year, and then apply for reciprocity in Ga.. I live approximately ten minutes from the Florida State Line, so it's very convenient for me. Florida has more opportunity than Geogia ,and they pay much more. That has been my LPN experience any way..
