Evidence for Clinical Practice

Hi guys!

I just enrolled in my first masters class (well, technically it's a bridge course since I'm doing a RN to MSN/FNP for those with a Bachelor's in another field) and the first class that was available was "Evidence for Clinical Practice." What's this class about? It reminds me of the psych class I took called "Introduction to Research Methods."

Is it a big review of the literature? How to write research papers based on clinical evidence? What's the deal?

Thanks. :)

I suspect that your guess about the content is close to hitting the mark. But you'll have to look at the actual course syllabus to know for sure. Each school has its own curriculum and gives unique names to the various required courses. It's not standardize across the country.

Perhaps you can find more information if you explore the school's website. They often have brief course descriptions there.

But yes, it sounds like a course that is going to look at types of evidence ... how we know what we know ... and why we do the things we do. It will probably discuss basic research concepts and the processes of generating knowledge and applying knowledge to practice. It may also survey "the state of the science" of nursing and explore the depth and breadth of the science that undergirds our practice.
