evening program at sac city college???

Published

I've heard a rumor that Sacramento City College offers an evening RN program. A friend of mine claims his brother took it and is just finishing up... I can't find ANYTHING about it through numerous google searches and exhaustive searching. Does anyone know anything?

Also, if they don't, does anyone know of ANY evening or part-time programs in the area? I live up the hill from Sac so I could go to Sac or Yuba or Placerville areas, maybe further if I am not going every day and can take clinicals around here.

I know, I'm asking for a dream that probably won't come true and I understand that this area is tricky as far as nursing, but I'm just trying to find a workable solution with two small children as I have plenty of evening childcare, but nothing during the day.

Thanks,

Jen D.

I've heard there will be a PT program starting at Sac City in January but I can't find any info on their website. My suggestion would be to call them. Another option is Sierra College in Rocklin. They've done PT programs in the past, and I believe they're still doing it.

Good luck, Jen! Don't give up on your dream. If you really want to be a nurse, then you will! :heartbeat

thank you so much...

i'm actually at sierra right now and have heard nothing but i guess maybe i'm looking in the wrong places. i'll call them. most people just tell me to wait until my kids are older and then go, but i'm planning on homeschooling so i'm trying to get done before it's time to really work on their schooling.

I'm surprised that you haven't heard anything about Sierra having a PT program. That've done it in the past years since a coworker has applied for it before. I'd talk to a counselor and see what they say. If they're not offering it this year, they should be able to tell you when they'll start offering it again. Good luck!

I forgot to call today. I'll call the nursing school tomorrow.

I don't believe that there is a part time program at Sierra anymore... I've been applying there for 2 years now and have never heard of one. Every other semester Sierra offers part of the program (lectures) online. Sierra has also had to cancell the LVN program due to lack of instructors. Sac city had a part time program that I applied for last year, but this year I spoke with a councelor and she said that they were not offering it anymore. I think the Sutter program through Sac city has some of their clinicals scheduled for pm shifts, that may be where you heard of the "evening program" from. I'm pretty sure the lectures are all in the day. Hope this helps!

Hi Jen~

I am currently in the program I believe you are referring to. Sac City received a grant for a PT nursing program. The classes are one day/week in the evenings, and the clinicals are every other weekend (some AM, and some PM shifts). However, I have heard that they do not know if they will continue this program. I would definitely call and express interest (talk to Dale Cohen) and hopefully they could continue this program. It is great for people who are parents or who have to work to be able to pursue their dreams of becoming a nurse, without having quite the intensity of a full time program. I had heard and seen that Sierra did have a online lecture nursing program, and PT program as well, where clinicals are every other weekend. Let us know what you find out, I'm curious to know if they will still keep these programs!
