Hey everyone, while in school I'm wanting to work in the ER and was hoping someone could explain the difference between an ER-PCT and an ER Tech. Honestly, I thought they were the exact same thing, but apparently not. I have my national certification as an EMT-Basic so when talking with Human Resources they said I was eligible to apply for the ER Tech position but not the ER-PCT position. Is there really that much of a difference? And if so, what tasks are different, and is there an actual pay difference between the two? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
Sorry for asking such a silly question, I've just devoured the internet and can't find diddly squat.
Thanks for your help!
PS. Sorry to bog down this forum, I attempted to ask this question in the PCT Forum but no cigar

i think the 'PCT' needs to have a CNA license, as the 'Tech'..can have an emt license..its all the same in my opinon. lol
i know at the hospital here, they follow the hospital protocols vs prehospital protocols, so its not like your in there king tubing everyone lol..
My thoughts exactly lol I know once you have a job in the hospital, the scope of practice for EMT's pretty much evaporates into thin air (or at least the ability to administer anything without consent of a nurse/doctor, etc)
But from what I've seen, the tasks that the PCT do and the ER Tech do are identical. So I was just curious why HR would have such a big problem with an EMT applying for an ER-PCT position but not an ER Tech position when, from what I can tell, they are the same thing with a slightly different title.

ya, idk and it peeves me beyond belief because...ive applied for PCT positions in other areas and their like.no no no you have to have a CNA licesne.. like seriouslY?....i would say EMT training supercedes CNA training just because of what we can do,now i understand maybe they want more focus on the nursing aspect..but im also a nursing student..i think im fairly proficient in the duties of beds/baths etc... ya know.. ::rant::
